Evie
𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐧𝐚 | 𝑱𝒆𝒐𝒏 𝑱𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒌𝒐𝒐𝒌Evie first enters the story as the opponent Shelby Anderson Barnum unexpectedly faces in the ring at Ares Garden. Taller and more visibly muscular than Shelby, Evie has pink hair that initially gives her a cheerful appearance; the scars across her face complicate that impression. Her presence turns Shelby’s unannounced entry into a fight that quickly exposes how unprepared Shelby is for the venue and its violence.
First Appearance and Fight
Shelby freezes when she sees the crowd and then notices Evie across from her. As the bout begins, Shelby attacks with a punch to the stomach and an uppercut, then continues striking with a fury that Jungkook Jeon recognizes as dangerously familiar. Evie absorbs the blows and tries to defend herself. She can tell that something is tormenting Shelby, a feeling she knows from her own first fight, and waits for Shelby to tire and break down before trying to end the bout. In the meantime, Evie is struck repeatedly and spits blood and saliva as she struggles to protect herself.
Shelby’s assault continues until pain rises in her hands and tears gather in her eyes. Evie then drives a knee into Shelby’s stomach and pushes her down, reversing their positions. With Shelby on the floor, Evie lands blows while Shelby tries to defend herself. Jungkook watches in anger but cannot intervene without violating Ares Garden’s rules. After several minutes, Shelby is near losing consciousness when the fight is called in Evie’s favor.
The victory does not end with Evie celebrating at a distance. She raises her hands when the result is declared, then kneels beside Shelby and helps her sit up. Shelby apologizes with difficulty; Evie tells her there is no need, acknowledges that she can fight, and warns that Ares Garden is no place for her. Shelby agrees to stay away, and the two exchange names. Evie then helps Shelby down from the ring and leaves her in Jungkook’s care. Her brief role establishes her as both a formidable combatant and someone able to recognize distress in another fighter, even after having fought her herself.
Return and the Reopening
After the fight, Evie reappears outside Ares Garden while it is closed. Jungkook Jeon recognizes her by the pink hair and the scars Shelby Anderson Barnum had seen in the ring. Evie confirms that her father has bought the venue from Chen, who has been his close friend for years. Her return links Shelby’s bruising first fight to the future of the place where it happened: the fighter who once warned Shelby away is now part of the family taking control of the arena.
Evie explains that her father intends to keep the business running, though its public-facing identity will change. The reopened Ares Garden is to compete with The Obsidian by attracting its customers with a more spectacular offer; Evie characterizes Bruce Wilson as a profiteer and con man who sells false luxury. The proposed rivalry gives the venue’s reopening a commercial and organizational dimension beyond the return of its fights.
Spencer Jenkins joins them and introduces himself as Evie’s father. He tells Jungkook that Chen has praised him and that Ares Garden will reopen the following week, adding that Jungkook is first on his list and that people are waiting for the champion’s return. Jungkook’s response is visible rather than spoken: he looks toward the establishment with evident excitement, and Spencer notices. Evie’s connection to the new ownership therefore places her at the intersection of the venue’s changed leadership and Jungkook’s anticipated return to the ring.
Characterization and Narrative Function
Evie’s brief account of her own first fight gives her response to Shelby a history of its own. She recognizes the torment behind Shelby’s fury because she has fought in that state herself; her patience in the ring is therefore grounded in experience, not simply sportsmanship. She waits for Shelby to exhaust herself, but once the bout is over, she shifts from opponent to caretaker, helping the badly hurt young woman rise and offering a direct warning about the arena. Evie understands both the force that draws a troubled person into fighting and the danger of remaining there.
Her later appearance complicates that warning without cancelling it. Evie remembers Shelby as the opponent she fought, yet now speaks for the future of the same venue, explaining that her father plans to continue its business under a new public identity and set it against The Obsidian. The contrast places her compassion beside an enterprise that will keep the fighting institution alive: Evie can recognize its risks on an intimate level while belonging to the family preparing its return. Through her, Ares Garden is at once a site of personal harm and a business being reshaped for renewed competition.
The Arena as a Repeated Test
Evie’s two appearances frame Ares Garden as more than a backdrop: it is first a place where personal distress becomes public spectacle, then a business whose future is deliberately recast as competition. Her warning to Shelby carries the force of experience—she recognizes the state that drove Shelby to keep swinging—while her later confidence in the venue’s renewed prospects shows that understanding its danger does not place her outside its world. The tension is left unresolved: Evie can identify the cost of fighting from inside the ring, yet she stands with the family preparing to reopen it.
